Dragon lander on Landing Pad, Hydroponics Center, Outpost and workshop

There are various types of building that can be constructed on 'off-world' surfaces, to aid your exploration and colonisation of the galaxy. Buildings are your 'off-world' base of operations and as well as shelter, buildings unlock numerous tasks to occupy your Astronauts' time and earn you credits

To construct buildings, you will need to purchase Tools and Building Materials from the Market on Earth, transport them to a moon or planet surface, and use an Astronaut or Worker to combine them into the required building (NB Outposts can only be built by astronauts). A specified amount of Life Support is also required for construction and should be taken into account when loading cargo on Earth.

The first building you will construct is the Outpost. Once completed, Astronauts and Workers can take residence and perform newly unlocked tasks and construct buildings such as the Landing Pad, the Workshop, the Factory, the Hydroponics Center, and the Operations

Each building provides accommodation for a number of astronauts or workers, and provides a core function, which typically requires workers to staff it. Upgrading the building will increase the accommodation space and allow more workers to be employed, speeding up the core function. For example, a level 1 Hydroponics increases the population cap by 2 and allows up to 3 workers to be employed, generating 4 life support each hour. A level 2 Hydroponics increases the population cap by 4 and allows up to 5 workers to be employed, generating 11 life support per hour (LS/Hour × 2 per worker).

Each building also has several additional modules that can be built and usually staffed. For example, the Workshop can build a Vehicle Repair Module, allowing workers to automatically use available repair packs to restore the durability of vehicles while they are idle. The Outpost can build a Satellite Link Module, allowing workers to make use of satellites in orbit to slowly but continuously scan the world's surface. Modules do not increase the population cap.

Notes

  • The Outpost is the only building which can be constructed with materials still on board the landing craft. All subsequent buildings require all materials to be on the planet and Life Support to be unpacked into the Outpost. NB It is possible to construct an Outpost using on-planet resources if you prefer, by selecting the Outpost button instead of the ship interface; however, an available Astronaut is still required.
